About Aquatic Plants in Water Quality Ponds
Wetland plants native to the Austin, TX area are used to remove nutrients and other pollutants from water. When using native plants as a biofilter the water quality that passes down-stream can be greatly improved. Native plants are essential as they are resistant to native pests and pathogens.
Aquatic plants also provide habitat for beneficial micro-organisms that help breakdown and digest nutrients and provide habitat for juvenile fish. Native aquatic plants also visually improve the quality of the landscape.
